The Premier League is perhaps the biggest football domestic league in the world. The popularity of the league is worldwide.
That is why, when the NBA, which is already a globally famous sport, tries to enter the European sporting market, it is quite natural that they would like to have an association with the Premier League.
However, the National Basketball Association is thinking big. They are looking to associate one of the biggest football clubs in Europe with their new tournament, NBA Europe.
The tournament might start in 2027. But after the president of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) spoke to Corriere dello Sport and revealed the club, the entire footballing world was in shock.
Gianni Petrucci first spoke about the tournament and how it will be positive for the system. He said:
“It’s a new development that will be good for the system, bringing resources and spectacle. The agreement also states that registered clubs must participate in the championships.”
After that, the president of the Italian Basketball Federation revealed the name of perhaps the biggest English football club who are getting associated with the NBA Europe:
“An NBA league is precisely the opportunity to increase competitiveness and expand the pool.
“If Manchester United, the most popular soccer team in the world, has already said yes, there must be a reason, right?”
Without any doubt, the Red Devils are one of the most successful clubs in England. Also, in terms of fan following, they are among the top clubs throughout Europe.
So, this association with Manchester United will prove fruitful for the entire tournament. The presence of United will surely draw more eyeballs to this new venture.
To see the Red Devils in action in the NBA Europe, fans will have to wait a bit longer. However, they can see United in action this Monday night.
