Last week, Manchester United surprisingly lost at Old Trafford against a 10-man Everton side. That was the first victory for David Moyes as the manager at Old Trafford.

So, this weekend, Ruben Amorim was desperate to get a positive result against Crystal Palace. Oliver Glasner also likes the play the same 3-4-2-1 formation that Amorim plays.

Also, Glasner was tipped to replace Amorim at Old Trafford if United sacked him. But Manchester United was without a key forward, who has become a key part of Amorim’s system.

Now, Ruben Amorim has finally offered clarity on the situation surrounding Matheus Cunha. The forward missed Manchester United’s defeat to Everton earlier this week.

He was missing from United’s squad that beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend by 2-1 due to goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount.

The striker unexpectedly dropped out of the squad after suffering a knock in training just two days before the Everton game.

The injury even forced him to cancel a planned appearance at Altrincham’s Christmas lights event, with organisers confirming he withdrew on medical advice.

Amorim later explained before the Everton game kick-off at Old Trafford that Cunha’s issue was not considered serious, but United could not take any risks with him.

That caution continued into the weekend. The manager previously confirmed that Cunha would miss Sunday’s match against Crystal Palace.

However, the Portuguese boss hopes to have him back for Thursday’s Premier League clash against West Ham United at Old Trafford.

The summer signing has also spoken publicly, posting a message of thanks to supporters along with a training-bike photo.

“Thank you all for the messages, I have not gone crazy yet,” he joked. “Despite the joke, thank you for your concern. Much love.”

Cunha now works toward returning against the Hammers, with United hopeful the setback remains minor and short-term.
