Arsenal’s 1–1 draw with Chelsea held their lead at the top by five points. However, last night, Manchester City won against Fulham in a close contest at Craven Cottage.
This leaves the gap at the top at just two points. Apart from that, the Gunners are set to face more troubles after a heated clash at Stamford Bridge.
The Gunners could not get three points from that game. Chelsea were down to 10 men after Moises Caicedo got a red card towards the end of the first half.
So, Arsenal should have won that game and extended their lead at the top of the table further. But that draw will follow more problems for the Gunners.
According to talkSPORT, the FA is planning penalties because Mikel Arteta’s squad picked up six yellows in that intense London Derby, which is enough to breach conduct limits.
The game started with Martin Zubimendi seeing yellow in under five minutes. Right after, Cristhian Mosquera picked one up.
After that, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie also got booked, not helping Arsenal’s case as cards piled up well before halftime.
Arteta looked to the subs for calmness. Yet things went downhill again. Once Myles Lewis-Skelly and Viktor Gyokeres arrived, they also received yellow cards.
These two yellow cards raised Arsenal’s tally to six in the entire game. This meant punishment for the Gunners according to the FA rule.
If a team gets six or more yellow cards in one game, they are fined £25,000 under FA rules.
This is not a new thing for Arsenal. Back in February 2024, they got punished following a tense match against Liverpool.
Facing fines has not shaken Arsenal’s strong position in the standings. Still, their repeated offenses are raising eyebrows while the Premier League title race heats up.
Arsenal will face Brentford next in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta will be looking to restore their five-point lead at the top in this game.
