Wrexham’s rise in the English football pyramid is nothing short of a Hollywood movie script. Now, they have confirmed a major new investment.
Their Hollywood co-chairmen, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have sold a minority stake to Apollo Sports Capital.
It is the same group that recently took control of Atletico Madrid. The deal marks a significant step in Wrexham’s long-term push toward Premier League football.
So, it can accelerate their redevelopment of the Racecourse Ground. The club announced the agreement in an official statement, saying:
“Wrexham AFC and co-chairmen, Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds, are excited to welcome Apollo Sports Capital… as new minority investors in the Club.
“The investment aligns with Wrexham AFC’s long-term growth strategy and Premier League aspirations, with majority shareholders Mac and Reynolds continuing to oversee the Club as controlling owners.
“As part of the investment, Apollo Sports Capital will also provide financing for the STōK Cae Ras… including the new Kop Stand.”
Furthermore, Apollo Sports Capital expressed equal enthusiasm, with partner Lee Solomon stating:
“Wrexham is on an incredible journey, and we are thrilled to be a part of it… This is a multi-faceted investment where Apollo Sports Capital can provide long-term, patient capital to help Wrexham reach its goals.”
Moreover, Wrexham CEO Michael Williamson echoed the optimism, noting:
“Their investment represents both confidence in the Club’s direction and commitment to our long-term vision… Together, we will continue to strengthen Wrexham AFC on and off the pitch.”
The move follows prior funding from the Allyn Family Office and nearly £18 million granted through state support for stadium redevelopment.
The construction of the new Kop Stand, upgraded floodlights, and multi-use facilities are already underway. Thus, the financial burden on Reynolds and McElhenney has significantly eased.
So, Wrexham continue to transform the Racecourse into an international-level venue, and Apollo’s arrival signals growing global interest in the club’s rapid rise.
