Manchester United could explore a swap deal involving Joshua Zirkzee during the January window. The opportunity has emerged as Roma look to accelerate a potential move.
United signed Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million in July 2024. The move was completed under Erik ten Hag as the club searched for attacking reinforcements.
However, Ten Hag left the club just months later. Ruben Amorim was appointed as his replacement. Since then, Zirkzee has struggled for consistent game time.
The Netherlands international moved in and out of the starting eleven last season. Since then, new attacking signings have pushed him further down the pecking order.
Because of this, United are open to letting him leave. That scenario becomes more likely if another attacker arrives during the January window.
Zirkzee did start United’s most recent match. He scored in the 1–1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, he was taken off at half time in a surprise change.
Now, a new possibility has emerged. According to AS Roma Live, United could agree a major offer or swap deal with AS Roma.
The report claims the proposed deal would involve Ivory Coast defender Evan Ndicka. He is currently away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.
Ndicka is said to have several admirers. United are one of the clubs monitoring his situation. The report adds that exploratory talks have already taken place during discussions over Zirkzee.
United have also added Ndicka to their list of defensive targets for next season. While other options remain a priority, his name continues to feature in internal discussions.
The situation remains open as Manchester United plan ahead for the summer.
