The loss to Benfica in the Champions League has shown one particular problem in Real Madrid’s squad. They have issues at the back.
And Florentino Perez is ready to address that issue next summer. Last summer, they signed Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alvaro Carreras.
However, injuries to their key defenders meant that the Los Blancos are shallow at the back. That is why Real Madrid are reportedly ready to make a huge defensive signing.
Florentino Perez is said to be keen on making a statement signing as Real Madrid continue to struggle this season. Madrid’s problems were once again exposed on Wednesday night.
They suffered a 4-2 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League, with the new manager, Alvaro Arbeloa, unable to steady the ship after replacing Xabi Alonso.
Arbeloa has signed a contract with Madrid until 2027. However, if things don’t improve, Florentino Perez will not hesitate to make a change once again.
Already, Jurgen Klopp is one name that Real Madrid are looking at to replace Arbeloa. Apart from the German, the Los Blancos are looking at a Premier League manager.
Now, according to Fichajes, the Spanish giants have submitted a €100 million bid for a Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, Cristian Romero.
The Argentine defender has been one of Tottenham’s standout performers since joining the club. He is a key figure for Thomas Frank’s side.
However, it is difficult to see the Spurs agreeing to such a deal in the middle of the season. But this €100 million offer is massive for Tottenham as they need improvements in several areas of the squad
It will be interesting to see whether this bid leads to serious negotiations, but Madrid’s intent is clear. They are ready to spend big to fix a problem that is no longer being ignored.
