Manchester United entered the January transfer window with one primary objective in mind. They wanted to sign a midfielder. However, they were sure about one thing.
The club repeatedly stressed that they were not looking at the January window to find a temporary solution as they did in previous seasons.
The Red Devils were against signing players on loan. They wanted permanent signings, and the board knew that their main targets would not be available in January.
Even when the chance to move for Antoine Semenyo emerged, United saw it purely as a value opportunity. Once he chose Manchester City, the plan reverted immediately to patience.
This was one of the main reasons behind the rift between Ruben Amorim and the board. Amorim wanted to sign players in January.
Manchester United will be looking to add at least two midfielders, with Casemiro already leaving, and Manuel Ugarte can also leave.
Now, United have many midfielders on their list. They are looking at Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, and Alex Scott as midfield signings for the summer.
Now, according to Manchester World, the player United see as the dream midfield signing is Nottingham Forest standout Elliot Anderson.
If Forest avoid relegation and Anderson continues his upward trajectory on the international stage, his price could climb rapidly.
However, United are not only trying to sign midfielders. They will be looking to sign wingers as well. They had a mass exodus of wingers last summer.
Amorim’s system did not allow wingers to play a key role. That is why Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho left.
Now, with the Portuguese leaving the club and Michael Carrick taking over as the interim manager, the Red Devils are back deploying wingers.
So, next summer, they will be looking to add wingers along with at least two midfielders.
