Jamie Carragher is popular for his bold claims and unfiltered punditry. Carragher and the former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville have developed a stunning on-screen chemistry.
People love to see both on the screen and the former Liverpool defender has now made another bold claim. He believes
Manchester United in a strong position to secure Champions League football next season. However, few expected a Liverpool legend to back them so confidently.
After their narrow 1-0 victory at Everton on Monday, the conversation around the top four shifted once again. Benjamin Sesko’s decisive goal in the 71st minute pushed United onto 48 points.
They now sit fourth in the table, three points clear of both Chelsea and Liverpool, who are separated only by goal difference.
With English clubs performing strongly in Europe, the Premier League is on course to receive an additional Champions League place.
That development would likely mean a top-five finish guarantees qualification. Jamie Carragher believes United are already there. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender said:
“I think Manchester United are virtually a guarantee in that position. Aston Villa look like they’re dropping points at the moment and they’ve still got European football on Thursday nights.
“Liverpool and Chelsea have both got Champions League and they’ve got the FA Cup as well. They’ll want to do well in at least one of those competitions — at least semi-final or final.
“I can’t see Manchester United not making it.”
United’s resurgence has been driven by Michael Carrick. Since stepping into the interim role, he has overseen five wins in six matches, with only a draw at West Ham interrupting the run.
Crucially, United have no European distractions. They also exited domestic cup competitions early, allowing full focus on the Premier League and Champions League qualification.
As of now, Manchester United are building momentum. And Jamie Carragher believes that momentum is enough to secure their return to the Champions League.
