Tottenham Hotspur are in a relegation battle this season. Following their loss to Arsenal in the North London derby, they are also considering changing their interim manager, Igor Tudor.
They appointed the former Juventus boss after parting ways with Thomas Frank. The former Brentford boss had a horrible record as the manager of the Spurs.
His win percentage in all competitions for the Spurs was 34.2%. It is the lowest win rate for any permanent Tottenham manager.
The Spurs had to let him go after winning just two of his last 17 games in charge of the North London club. They have decided to appoint a new permanent boss after the end of this season.
Now, one name has become favourite for the permanent role as the Spurs manager. The current head coach of the United States of America, Mauricio Pochettino, is heavily linked with the Spurs job.
Under the Argentine boss, Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed one of the most successful spells in recent times. Although they didn’t win any trophies, they played the Champions League final in 2019.
Now, Pochettino has opened up on Tottenham links during an interview with Radio Gaceta de los Deportes on RNE. The former Spurs boss said:
“I’m always linked (to clubs), to Tottenham, just like at one time I was linked to Espanyol, or to other clubs.
“In the end, especially because of my past at those clubs, when things aren’t going well, people tend to fall back on emotions and say, ‘Well, with Mauricio we played good football,’ or whatever it may be.
“But no. We’re focused on the World Cup, on the United States. My contract runs until after the World Cup, so after that, we’ll see what might happen. Open to everything, right?”
So, Mauricio Pochettino’s focus is now on the World Cup. But after the tournament, his contract will expire. And he has hinted that he is open to a dream return to Tottenham Hotspur.
