Manchester United kept their undefeated streak alive under Michael Carrick, as they dispatched Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace by 2-1 at Old Trafford.
With this win, United move to the third position in the Premier League table due to their superior goal difference over Aston Villa.
Maxence Lacroix gave Palace the lead within the first five minutes of the game. However, the French defender received a red card and conceded a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes converted.
Within minutes, Benjamin Sesko headed United in front from a brilliant Fernandes cross, and it was enough to seal three points for the Red Devils.
However, during the 24th minute of the game, Luke Shaw suffered a heavy knock from Daniel Munoz and was unable to continue the game and left the pitch. Noussair Mazraoui replace him.
Also, Harry Maguire had to leave the pitch at the 88th minute of the game as he was feeling discomfort. Ayden Heaven replaced the former Manchester United captain.
After the game, Michael Carrick gave an update on the two defenders, as he sounded hopeful. The Manchester United manager said (via the BBC):
“They (Shaw and Maguire) just weren’t feeling too well, so hopefully they will be feeling better soon.”
Carrick also commented on his decision to start Benjamin Sesko, who scored his 8th goal for United and sixth in 2026.
Only Brentford’s Igor Thiago has scored more than the Slovenian in 2026. Here is what Carrick had to say about his decision to start Sesko:
“It’s not a gamble. It wasn’t that big of a decision. Benjamin is in a good place, and he has had a major impact in recent weeks.
“He’s learning what it feels like to play here, and to score the winner today is fantastic. We are here to help, and I’m sure that will continue. He is willing to do whatever that is.”
Manchester United will play Newcastle United next in the Premier League at St. James’ Park, where they have not won a game since 2020.
