Rodri was changed by The FA after his outburst following the draw against Tottenham Hotspur in North London. Now, the governing body has announced the sanctions.
The Spaniard has been one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad for the last few years. However, he is not having a good time lately.
Transfer News Live already reported that the Manchester City midfielder was reported to the police for flying a drone close to his neighbours’ flats.
Now, the FA has issued a statement that clearly mentions the sanctions they have imposed on the 2024 Ballon d’Or. The statement read (via Manchester City official website):
“An independent Regulatory Commission has sanctioned Rodri for the media comments that he made after Manchester City’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 1 February.
“It was alleged that the midfielder acted in an improper manner during a post-match media interview by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or match officials, contrary to FA Rule E3.1.
“Rodri subsequently admitted the charge against him. The Regulatory Commission imposed an £80,000 fine and a warning as to future conduct following a hearing.”
So, one positive for the Citizens is that the FA have not suspended Rodri. He has been a crucial part of the squad for Pep Guardiola.
They are entering a crucial phase in the title. Manchester City are behind Arsenal by seven points. Also, they have a game in hand. Furthermore, they will play Arsenal next month.
So, losing Rodri for even a game would have been a problem for Guardiola. The Citizens need to be at their best if they want to win the Premier League this season.
Thus, Pep Guardiola will be hoping that the Spaniard will stay fit, as they have some of the most important games coming up, starting with the Champions League last 16 clash with Real Madrid.
