Arsenal made somewhat of a surprise move this summer, signing Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.
Arriving for a fee of £48.5 million back in July, this raised eyebrows amongst some of the Arsenal fanbase, and football fans alike.
He came off the bench in their opening weekend win against Manchester United, but was named in the starting lineup for their win against Leeds United as the left of the front three.
An injury to Bukayo Saka saw Madueke be given the opportunity to play on his more favoured right side.
With Saka’s recent injury, his four-week absence has justified the move for Madueke.
Whilst he has yet to register a goal or assist, he impressed in their defeat to Liverpool at Anfield and was excellent during their 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest yesterday.
Arsenal begin their UEFA Champions League campaign away to Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday.
With the club likely to compete on multiple fronts, Madueke will be a great aid to their squad depth.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reveals what convinced him to sign Noni Madueke
Speaking after yesterday’s match, Arteta revealed what exact detail convinced him to sign Madueke.
“Madueke brought a lot of courage! When we were in talks to sign Noni… I spoke to him and he was like: I go for it, I cannot wait to put that shirt on and play for you guys.
“I said: wow, let’s bring him. If I was convinced before, I’m even more convinced now.”
Arteta will hope that Madueke can make the difference in Arsenal’s search for a first league title since their 2003/04 Invincibles team.
