Arsenal are having one of the best seasons in recent years. They are firmly leading the Premier League title race now.
If Manchester City fail to secure three points against Crystal Palace in midweek, then with a victory against Burnley at the Emirates, the Gunners could clinch the Premier League after two decades.
Also, they will be playing in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. It will be the first time the Gunners have played in the final of the Champions League since 2006.
However, amid all the success, one Arsenal star has decided to end his career. Christian Norgaard has officially retired from international football with Denmark.
The Arsenal midfielder confirmed the news in an emotional Instagram statement. He wrote on Instagram:
“I have decided to quit the national team. On the one hand, it has been a difficult decision, because there is basically nothing I love more than checking in with teammates and staff at Marienlyst.
“And there is basically nothing I love more than playing matches in red and white in a sold-out, buzzing Parken.
“On the other hand, it has been an easy decision, because I want to have more time with my family, and with the missed World Cup qualification, it also feels natural now to make room for the talented and ambitious talents, which Denmark is fortunately still rich in.”
Norgaard made 41 appearances for Denmark after making his debut against England in 2020.
He also played an important role during Denmark’s impressive Euro 2020 run, featuring in five matches before their semi-final exit.
The midfielder joined Arsenal from Brentford last summer but has mostly played a supporting role under Mikel Arteta this season.
Norgaard started only ten matches across all competitions as Arsenal continue fighting for both the Premier League and Champions League trophies.
