Arsenal are heading to the Champions League final for the first time since 2006 after overcoming Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners went into the second leg under pressure after a 1-1 draw in Spain. However, Mikel Arteta’s side delivered when it mattered most.
Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal to send Arsenal into the final and keep their hopes of European glory alive. It is a huge moment for the club after years away from Europe’s biggest stage.
Now, Arsenal will prepare to face either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in the final at the Puskas Arena later this month.
However, there will be one major difference this year compared to previous Champions League finals.
UEFA have decided to change the traditional kick-off time for the final in what is being described as a major shift for the competition.
According to UEFA, the Champions League final will now kick off at 5 pm on May 30 instead of the usual 8 pm start.
The governing body believes the earlier kick-off will improve the overall experience for supporters, broadcasters and host cities.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin explained the reasoning behind the decision. He said:
“With this change, we are placing the fans’ experience at the heart of our planning. The UEFA Champions League final is the highlight of the football season, and the new kick-off time will make it even more accessible, inclusive and impactful for everyone involved.
“While a 21:00CET kick-off is well suited for midweek matches, an earlier kick-off on a Saturday for the final means an earlier finish – regardless of extra time or penalties – and offers fans the opportunity to enjoy the rest of the evening with friends and family, reflecting on the game of the season.”
