Bruno Fernandes continues to deliver decisive moments when Manchester United need them the most.
During the 3-1 win against Aston Villa, his corner led to the opening goal from Casemiro, before a perfectly weighted through ball created Cunha’s goal.
Those contributions ensured United walked away with three points instead of dropping points. Fernandes has produced a similar impact in other matches this season for United.
Against Crystal Palace, the playmaker delivered a goal and an assist in a narrow 2-1 victory.
Earlier in the campaign, he also played a decisive role in Manchester United‘s dramatic 3-2 win against Fulham. In that game, he registered two assists that helped secure the result.
These moments have steadily added up throughout the season. With seven goals and sixteen assists, the Portuguese midfielder has played a direct role in a huge portion of Manchester United’s points.
In fact, according to The Sun, his contributions have already earned the club 26 points this season, with eight matches still remaining. That number is significant in United’s history.
The last time a player delivered that many points for the club in a single Premier League campaign was during the 2008-09 season.
Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the same total through 18 goals and six assists before leaving for Real Madrid. Now Bruno Fernandes has matched that record.
And he could soon chase another milestone. Only Robin van Persie’s 2012-13 campaign produced 38 points through goals and assists. Fernandes also has another historic target in sight.
The Premier League record for most assists in a season stands at 20. Thierry Henry set it in 2002-03 and was later matched by Kevin De Bruyne.
With 16 assists already and nine in his last ten matches, Bruno Fernandes is closing in on yet another major record.
