Club chief hints at Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool return

The idea now feels more alive than ever.

Liverpool losing to Nottingham Forest was an unexpected result. The Forest are fighting to survive in the English top-flight division.

The Reds were fresh from a painful defeat at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad. So, after the international, Liverpool were expected to get back to winning ways.

However, they suffered their 8th loss in the last 11 games. Thus, quite expectedly, pressure is now mounting on Arne Slot to turn things around.

Otherwise, he could lose his job the following year after winning the Premier League. And, now, a club chief even hinted at a possible return for a legendary Liverpool manager.

But Jurgen Klopp continues to insist that he has no intention of returning to management, but the talk around him refuses to die down.

The former Liverpool boss left Anfield in 2024 after nine intense and successful years, and he has since taken on a very different role.

In January 2025, he joined the Red Bull group as Head of Global Football, a job built around travel, oversight, and long-term planning rather than touchline work.

Klopp recently added another commitment when he joined an expert group with the German Football League to help improve the future of the sport in the country.

He also confirmed that he will work as a pundit at the 2026 World Cup for Magenta TV. Each move suggested a step away from the daily grind of coaching.

But Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, believes Klopp’s true nature will pull him back to the dugout.

Hoeness said while appearing on the OMR Podcast (quotes via Tagesspiegel):

“I could never imagine him as an official who travels around the country, to New York, and looks after the different teams.

“And I don’t think that will be a good model in the long run. I also don’t think he’ll do that forever; I can’t imagine it.

Speculation grew even stronger after Klopp admitted he would never coach another English club but refused to rule out Liverpool as a future exception.

The idea now feels more alive than ever, as pressure keeps mounting on Arne Slot. And, even the betting odds are giving an indication of a possible return.
