Eddie Howe sends strong message after Anthony Gordon snub

Gordon’s absence only adds to the rising tension.

Eddie Howe, Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon will miss Newcastle’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth with a hip injury, dealing a timely blow to Eddie Howe’s plans. The setback comes at an awkward moment.

Speculation around the winger’s future has grown in recent days, with interest building from top clubs across England and Europe. However, Howe made his stance clear.

The Newcastle manager addressed the situation head-on before the game. He stressed that commitment remains non-negotiable, regardless of transfer noise. Howe said (via YouTube):

“I discuss things with players all the time. I don’t necessarily discuss transfer speculation unless I feel it has reached that point.

“The biggest thing I look for is commitment in training. If I see that, the player will perform. That applies to Anthony and everyone else.

“I won’t play any player if I do not feel they are 100 per cent committed to the club and its future.”

Gordon’s absence only adds to the rising tension. The 25-year-old has attracted strong interest from Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Reports suggest Newcastle could demand more than £80 million if they decide to sell. Despite the uncertainty, Howe refused to single out the winger.

Instead, he delivered a message to the entire squad. He made it clear that no player is guaranteed a place without full dedication.

Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 in a £45 million deal. Since then, he has played a key role in the club’s progress.

He has made over 150 appearances, scoring 39 goals and providing 28 assists. He also helped the club end their long wait for silverware by winning the Carabao Cup in 2025.
