Newcastle United are facing a difficult summer as financial pressures begin to shape key decisions. The club are preparing for a major rebuild after a disappointing campaign.
However, profit and sustainability rules are now playing a central role. The Magpies may be forced into sales they would rather avoid. That includes players who were only recently brought in.
One such case has now emerged. According to The i Paper, Newcastle are considering selling a forward signed just last summer.
The situation is far from ideal. Yoane Wissa arrived for a significant fee but has failed to deliver consistently. Many expected the striker to become the ideal replacement for Alexander Isak.
However, injuries and poor form have disrupted his impact. At the same time, Wissa’s age has reduced long-term value. As a result, the club are now reassessing their options.
The report claims his value has dropped sharply. Newcastle could now receive only £15–20 million for a player they signed for over £50 million, which represents a major loss.
Meanwhile, the club are already planning replacements. They are targeting a more specialised striker ahead of next season. At the same time, further sales could follow.
Players such as Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have all attracted interest. Manager Eddie Howe has made his stance clear. He said:
“I won’t play a player if I don’t think they are 100% committed to the club and its future.”
That comment highlights the club’s approach heading into the summer. With PSR pressures mounting, Newcastle may be forced into an unwanted decision that could define their transfer window.
