Both Arsenal and Manchester City are looking to bolster their midfield. And now, they have received a massive transfer boost following the latest development.

The Gunners are leading the Premier League title charge, followed by the Citizens. Pep Guardiola’s men have struggled in the midfield.

They have signed Tijjani Reijnders, but the Dutch international is yet to shine. Also, Rodri’s injuries have created a problem for Guardiola. That is why he would like to sign a midfielder.

As for the Gunners, they want to build a squad to dominate European football. As a result, they are looking to find quality players.

Now, Manchester United were in the race along with Arsenal and Manchester City to sign a top Premier League midfielder.

However, as Transfer News Live reported earlier, the Red Devils have left the race, and they are now focusing on other targets.

So, currently, Arsenal and Manchester City are the frontrunners to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.

And the latest comments from Newcastle’s CEO, David Hopkinson, will give both clubs an impetus in their pursuit of the Italian. Hopkinson said (via The Sun):

“We think through what players might or might not want to do this summer.

“But if an Isak-like scenario presents itself again, any player under contract is going to leave on our terms, and we’re going to maximise the opportunity that might represent for the club.

“Going forward, our strategy is to buy well and sell well.”

However, the Newcastle CEO refused to speak about whether the Magpies are ready to sell some of their in-form and best players. The CEO said:

“We’re not ready to answer that. We’ve got to see what set-up we’re in and what opportunities present themselves in the marketplace.

“What I will say is that we intend to be disciplined, active, thoughtful and as proactive as we possibly can, but what’s the outcome going to be? I couldn’t begin to tell you.”

So, if both Arsenal and Manchester City come in with the right price, Newcastle United will be open to selling Sandro Tonali.
