Manchester City have had major addition to their squad after completing the signing of Elliot Anderson.
The former Newcastle United academy star established himself as one of Nottingham Forest’s most influential players last season.
The midfielder made 50 appearances across all competitions as Forest secured Premier League safety and reached the Europa League semi-finals.
Moreover, Anderson recorded the most touches in the Premier League with 3,300. He also won a league-high 297 duels and regained possession 306 times.
His performances earned him an important role with England at the 2026 World Cup. Anderson featured in every game as Thomas Tuchel’s side eventually secured third place.
Manchester City subsequently completed a £116M deal to sign Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
However, Anderson also used his arrival to aim a dig at City’s local rivals Manchester United.
Speaking after completing his move, Anderson declared Manchester City the dominant force in the city. Anderson said:
“For as long as I’ve known Manchester, City have been the Kings of Manchester.”
He also expressed his excitement about experiencing the Manchester derby, describing it as one of the biggest rivalries in world football.
Meanwhile, Anderson explained that City’s recent success played a major role in his decision to make the move.
“I think they’re winners, they’re relentless, and that’s the sort of team I want to be a part of.”
The England international will now receive three weeks of rest following his lengthy World Cup campaign before joining Maresca’s squad towards the end of pre-season.
