Enzo Fernandez has once again found himself in the spotlight. The Chelsea midfielder sparked talk earlier this month when he spoke about Madrid. He said:
“I’d like to live in Madrid. It’s a beautiful city, reminds me of Buenos Aires.”
Those comments raised eyebrows. Chelsea did not take it lightly. The club responded by handing him a two-match suspension after he openly flirted with the idea of a future move.
But the story has taken another turn. Less than 24 hours after helping Chelsea reach the FA Cup final, Fernandez travelled to Spain.
He scored the winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Leeds United, heading home in the first half. That result secured their place in the final.
Soon after, he made the trip. Fernandez was spotted in Madrid attending the Mutua Madrid Open.
He did not travel alone either, as teammates Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro also joined him during the short break. Paparazzi also saw the group in the streets of the Spanish capital.
Chelsea allowed the trip. Interim boss Calum McFarlane gave the squad time off following the win over Leeds. That gave players the chance to travel and recover before the final stretch of the season.
Still, the timing of the trip stands out. Fernandez’s visit comes just weeks after his comments about Madrid, which linked him with a potential move to Real Madrid.
With Reece James unavailable, Fernandez stepped in as captain and delivered a standout performance.
So, while speculation continues, Enzo Fernandez remains fully involved on the pitch. But his latest appearance in Madrid will only add to the conversation around his future.
