Everton are preparing for another Premier League campaign after finishing 13th last season. David Moyes’ side collected 49 points from 38 matches but ended the campaign without a victory in their final seven games.
The Toffees have since reshaped their squad during a busy summer transfer window. Brennan Johnson, Hayden Hackney, Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George are among the new arrivals as Moyes looks to strengthen his options.
However, Everton have now received an unwanted development away from their preparations for the new season. One of their young forwards faces allegations concerning a significant number of bets on football matches.
According to BBC Sport, Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association with allegedly breaching its betting rules. The allegations concern 61 bets placed across a period of around 15 months.
The FA alleges that Sherif breached Rule E1.2 through bets on football matches between November 20, 2024 and February 12, 2026. Sherif has until August 17 to provide his response to the charges.
Sherif joined Everton’s youth system in 2019 and progressed through the club’s ranks. He began training with the senior first-team squad in early 2025.
But he has yet to make his competitive senior debut for Everton. The Liberia-born attacker spent part of last season gaining experience in League One.
He initially joined Rotherham United on loan. He scored twice across 10 appearances before Everton recalled him in December following injury problems.
Sheriff then moved to Port Vale on another temporary deal in February for the remainder of the campaign.
He made 17 League One appearances and scored twice, although Port Vale ultimately suffered relegation.
Everton will now await the forward’s response to the FA charges as their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season continue.
