In a transfer window already swirling with speculation and surprises, one Premier League club is quietly working to retain a figure who has remained central to its midfield stability.

While other sides in Europe begin circling, it appears the Merseyside outfit is not quite ready to let go.

The player in question, a seasoned presence with a wealth of top-level experience, has been attracting interest most notably from Paris FC, who viewed him as a potential summer coup to shore up their midfield.

With his current deal expiring on June 30th, his availability on a free transfer was seen as an enticing prospect across the continent.

But those hoping for a change in scenery might need to pause. Everton, determined not to lose their midfield lynchpin without a fight, have made their move.

According to Foot Mercato, the club has tabled a contract extension and talks with Idrissa Gana Gueye are progressing well.

There is growing optimism that a fresh agreement could soon be finalised. Idrissa Gana Gueye’s journey has come full circle.

After a successful spell at Everton, he joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, only to return three years later in a move that was welcomed by the Goodison Park faithful.

Since then, Idrissa Gana Gueye has not just slotted back into the team, he has owned the centre of the pitch.

Across 40 appearances in all competitions this past season, his consistency and defensive awareness have remained vital to the Toffees’ campaign.

Even at 35, his influence has not waned. Leadership, reliability, and an understanding of the Premier League’s rhythm have kept him as a mainstay in David Moyes’ plans.

Now, rather than watching him walk away for free, Everton seem poised to keep that experience and quality at the heart of their midfield.

Should things proceed as expected, the blue side of Merseyside may be holding onto a familiar face for just a little while longer.
