Manchester United have been on a great run in the Premier League in recent times. They have not lost a game in their last five games.
Also, they won three games back-to-back for the first time under Ruben Amorim for the first time during his time at Manchester United.
The Red Devils had a decent summer transfer window. They did sign multiple players to give their frontline a new look.
Players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are already creating an impact for the Portuguese boss. However, Amorim wanted to sign a midfielder as well.
And, with the January transfer window, Manchester United’s focus will be on signing a new midfielder. They are already heavily linked with a move for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
But the midfielder they wanted the most this summer was Carlos Baleba from Brighton. They also submitted an offer, but the Seagulls were not ready to sell their Cameroonian midfielder.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the situation of Manchester United’s midfield and revealed their priority target for the next window. Romano said on his YouTube channel:
“Baleba wants to go to Man United. May United want Baleba. The conversation with the player and his agency is very good.
“But Brighton at that time, August didn’t want to sell the player in January is likely to be a difficult deal.
“Brighton insist on not selling the player. But for the summer, unless the stances change for January, we have to see what happens.
“But for the summer, let’s say for 2026, for sure, Manchester United see Carlos Baleba as a priority target. I gave you a video last summer.
“Man United want to insist on the deal in 2026, and that remains the case. Man United still want Baleba. Baleba is still very keen on a move to Manchester United even more now.”
So, it will be interesting to see whether United signs a midfielder in January or they wait for Baleba next summer.
