A semi-professional footballer has been jailed after being filmed driving at speeds reaching an extraordinary 191mph.
Police investigations uncovered repeated incidents of dangerous driving across a 12-month period, with several extreme speeds recorded by his vehicle.
The onboard computer showed speeds of 191mph, 186mph and 175mph, alongside several other occasions where the car exceeded 100mph.
Authorities also discovered videos showing dangerous manoeuvres, including weaving through traffic and drifting around a roundabout.
The investigation began after West Yorkshire Police became aware of social media videos showing dangerously high-speed driving during 2023.
Following a collision on South Accommodation Road in Leeds in September 2023, officers seized the £90,000 BMW X3 M Competition.
Police then downloaded information from the car’s onboard computer, which revealed repeated high-speed journeys on the M1, M62 and A1(M).
According to The Telegraph, semi-professional footballer Connor Charlton has now been jailed for four years after admitting 10 counts of dangerous driving and four counts of perverting the course of justice.
The 32-year-old plays for Nostell Miners Welfare FC in the Northern Counties East League and admitted offences committed between 2022 and 2023.
Leeds Crown Court also banned Charlton from driving for four years and seven months when he appeared there last week.
During their investigation, police found multiple videos showing Charlton driving dangerously and reaching speeds as high as 160mph.
Evidence from his vehicle recorded additional speeds of 157mph, 107mph, 161mph, 110mph and several other extreme figures.
Investigators also discovered that Charlton had arranged for other drivers to accept speeding penalty points on his behalf.
He charged those drivers £250 and faced four separate counts of perverting the course of justice as a result.
Police also found a note on his phone outlining a fabricated account regarding the September 2023 collision.
The document claimed another driver caused the crash before leaving the scene, although investigators later uncovered the wider evidence against Charlton.
Charlton admitted every charge before receiving his four-year prison sentence and lengthy driving ban.
