Manchester United are in a strong position this season. They are firmly in the race for Champions League football.
So, consistency is now the key focus, as every game carries importance at this stage. However, small moments can still create problems.
One such incident came in their clash against Bournemouth. It was a tight contest late in the game. United were trying to see things out.
But the situation changed quickly. A late decision shifted the momentum. Harry Maguire was sent off in the 78th minute. The call gave Bournemouth a big opportunity through a penalty
Soon after, they made it count. The equaliser came from the penalty spot. However, the bigger issue came after the dismissal. The reaction that followed has now created trouble.
Maguire was clearly frustrated. He protested the decision to referee Stuart Atwell. Also, he confronted the fourth official. That moment has now been reviewed.
The FA have now charged Harry Maguire for his conduct. They claim he acted in an improper manner. The statement for the FA read:
“Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20.
“It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.
“Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.”
Maguire was already handed a one-match ban. That came for denying a goalscoring opportunity. But now, there is a real risk of further punishment. The suspension could be extended.
So, Manchester United could be without Harry Maguire for longer than expected.
