England played host to Serbia in their penultimate FIFA World Cup qualifying game at Wembley Stadium.
Bukayo Saka opened the scoring with a composed volley that found the bottom-left corner at the half-hour mark.
Later, Eberechi Eze stepped off the bench and sealed the result with a brilliant finish in the 90th minute.
This gave the English side their 7th win of the campaign. The Three Lions have already made it to the World Cup in 2026.
However, one moment caught the attention of everyone in the crowd and fans watching from their TV.
One moment of pressure led to a loose ball on the edge of the box, and everything shifted the second a challenge went wrong.
At first, players reacted normally to the flow of the match. England pushed forward, and the visitors tried to close the space.
However, the next few seconds took a frightening turn. Serbian midfielder Ivan Ilic rushed to cover the danger. His footing slipped, and his leg twisted unnaturally.
The reaction from both teams told the story before the cameras did. Meanwhile, the player dropped to the turf and clutched his leg at once.
Two medics from the Serbian team sprinted onto the pitch as teammates stepped back in shock. The referee stopped the match right away.
ITV reviewed the footage only privately before refusing to show any replay on air. ITV Commentator Sam Matterface explained it with a brief message to viewers (quote via The Sun):
“We have had a look back and did not think it was the right thing to do to replay that incident. It is quite a bad injury.”
Ilic, the 24-year-old, had suffered a serious knee injury while trying to block Marcus Rashford’s shot.
Aleksandar Stankovic replaced him moments before half-time. Ilic, who plays his club football for Torino, has made six Serie A appearances this season.
