Joe Hart made headlines not too long ago after an unexpected return to football. It came out of nowhere and, naturally, it sparked questions about what might follow next.
After all, many believed that once a player steps back into the game, even briefly, it often hints at something bigger. However, that has not been the case here.
The former goalkeeper had already called time on his career at the end of the 2023/24 season. He did so after two strong years at Celtic, where he re-established himself as a reliable first choice.
Before that move, things looked very different. He had spent two years on the sidelines, acting as a backup and not playing a single league game.
So, when Celtic brought him in for £1 million from Tottenham Hotspur, few expected what followed.
Hart became the number one again and played a key role as the club secured seven major trophies during his time at Parkhead.
The former Manchester City player even ended his career on a high, lifting both the league and cup double.
Since stepping away from playing, his focus shifted quickly. He became a regular face on television, working with BBC and TNT Sports.
Meanwhile, he featured consistently on Match of the Day this season. On top of that, he launched his own podcast and even hosts a show for Fifa.
However, things took a surprising turn two months ago. He appeared back at his boyhood club, Shrewsbury, during their League Two clash with Salford City.
He was not there as a player, though. Instead, he stepped in as a temporary goalkeeping coach. The club needed help for one night, and he answered the call from a former teammate, Gavin Cowan.
Now, speaking openly on the Golf Life podcast, Joe Hart has made his stance crystal clear. He will not be stepping into coaching or management at any point in the future. He said:
“I love football and goalkeeping but I just don’t like the professional side of the coaching, what it’ll do to you, your family life.”
He also stressed that his family comes first. He believes coaching would require total commitment, something he does not want to give at this stage.
So, despite that brief return sparking curiosity, Joe Hart has shut the door firmly.
