Julian Alvarez’s future has come under the spotlight again just days before a huge European clash. The Atletico Madrid forward has attracted strong interest ahead of the summer window.

Both Arsenal and Barcelona continue to monitor his situation as they look to strengthen their attack. That has led to growing speculation.

Recent reports claimed members of Alvarez’s family had travelled to Barcelona to look for houses, fuelling talk of a possible move to the La Liga giants. But that story has now been shut down.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Alvarez’s agent Fernando Hidalgo dismissed the claims completely. He said: “1,000 per cent false. No one in the family has been in Barcelona.”

He also clarified the last time the family visited the city. Hidalgo added:

“The last time was for the match against Atletico, and they returned to Madrid the next day.”

That response ends one part of the speculation. However, interest in Alvarez remains strong.

Barcelona view him as a key option with Robert Lewandowski nearing the end of his contract, while Arsenal continue to assess attacking targets ahead of the new season.

The player himself has kept his position clear. He said last month:

“These are things that get said, then they spread like wildfire on social media. I’m happy, I’m thinking about the day-to-day.”

Atletico Madrid have reached the Champions League semi-final and will face Arsenal over two legs. Alvarez will play a key role as his side push for a place in the final.

He also scored in the recent Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad, although Atletico lost on penalties.

So while transfer talk continues, the immediate focus is clear. Julian Alvarez now turns his attention to Arsenal, with his future still open heading into the summer.
