Arsenal have received a timely boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Fulham, with several key players returning to fitness at a crucial stage of the season.
Mikel Arteta’s side have built strong momentum in recent weeks. They reclaimed top spot from Manchester City after beating Newcastle United.
Now, they have the chance to move six points clear when they host Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. However, there were concerns following that win against Newcastle.
Eberechi Eze had to come off early with a knock, which raised doubts over his availability. However, those fears have eased.
Eze has recovered from that issue and featured as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
That return has provided a major lift for Arteta. There was also positive news on another front.
Martin Zubimendi recovered from illness and returned to action, which leaves Arsenal in a stronger position heading into the weekend.
However, not everything is straightforward. Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber remain doubtful after missing the Atletico clash.
Havertz picked up a muscular problem against Newcastle and could not travel to Madrid. Arteta addressed the situation after the Newcastle match. He said:
“They are muscular niggles. We don’t think it’s too much. We have to wait and see if they can be available for Wednesday.”
“He had a little niggle. I don’t know how serious it is. It didn’t look too big. The action, the way he describes it, is not too sharp. But we have to wait and see.”
Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori has also struggled for rhythm. He has not featured in the league since early April but did return to the bench against Atletico, which suggests he is close to full fitness.
Timber’s situation remains uncertain. He has missed the last nine matches with a groin injury and is still building up his workload in training.
Mikel Merino also continues his recovery after foot surgery in February, and his chances of playing again this season remain unclear.
