Manchester United youngster appeared to take a subtle swipe at Ruben Amorim. He shared an image of himself with an individual award just hours after the head coach questioned his progress.
So, the timing of the post raised eyebrows, coming only hours after Amorim made pointed remarks about several Manchester United academy graduates.
During the pre-match press conference for the Bournemouth game, Amorim said (quotes via The Sun):
“Amass is now struggling in the Championship. Chido (Obi) is not always a starter in under 21s.
“He (Collyer) played (for the United first team). He’s from the academy. He played here.
“He went to West Bromwich. He’s not playing. He played for Manchester United. So sometimes it’s not because he’s from the academy or whatever.
“It’s the situation, what’s happened. I don’t know what is going to be the future (for Mainoo). Let’s see after this match.
“All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager!”
Harry Amass is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and has been a regular feature for his side this season.
Despite the club struggling near the foot of the table, the United academy star has been one of their brighter performers.
Moreover, the 18-year-old defender was Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Month for November after winning 82 per cent of the public vote.
So, the award followed a milestone moment in his young career, as he scored his first professional goal away at Southampton.
Shortly after receiving the accolade, Amass posted a photo with the trophy on Instagram, although he deleted the image later.
However, Amorim’s reference to Amass “struggling” was more at Sheffield Wednesday’s difficult league position rather than the player’s individual form.
Currently, Wednesday sit bottom of the Championship table after being hit with two points deductions.
