Manchester United legend eyes return after Ruben Amorim’s sacking

They are looking at a Manchester United legend to take up that role.

Breaking News - Manchester United

Manchester United informed Ruben Amorim of his dismissal on Monday morning after the club’s leadership team decided to change things.

The decision followed internal discussions held before Sunday’s 1–1 draw with Leeds. Those talks included a tense meeting between Amorim and director of football Jason Wilcox.

Tactical disagreements played a role, particularly over the continued use of the 3-4-3 system.

United confirmed that Darren Fletcher will take interim charge. The former midfielder is currently working with the under-18 side.

So, he will be on the touchline for the Premier League clash against Burnley. However, Fletcher will not be charge for long.

United want a caretaker manager to lead the team for the rest of the season. They are planning to appoint a permanent manager in the summer.

Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is currently the leading candidate for the long term role. In the meantime, attention has turned to short term options.

And, they are looking at a Manchester United legend to take up that role.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has become a possible candidate to become the caretaker boss. The Norwegian previously managed the club for three years.

Also, according to Fabrizio Romano, Solskjaer would be open to returning in a temporary role.

The Norweigian first took charge during an interim spell. He won 14 of his first 19 matches. That run earned him the job on a permanent basis before his departure in November 2021.

Solskjaer managed 168 matches during his time at Old Trafford. He finished with a win percentage of 54 percent.
