There has been a real contrast of seasons for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
He made his name during the 2023/24 season, in what was his breakout year.
After making his debut in February 2023, Mainoo would go on to make 32 appearances in all competitions for United.
He would net the winner in injury time against Wolverhampton Wanderers and score in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, a result that would have big implications on the Premier League title race.
His highlight would come in the FA Cup final, scoring the eventual winner in a 2-1 win against Manchester City at Wembley.
This is a season that would end in being selected for England’s squad for the 2024 UEFA European Championships.
However, he saw a dip in form during the 2024/25 season, with his struggles highlighted early on during a 3-0 home loss to Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag, who promoted Mainoo to the first team, was sacked and replaced by Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.
Injuries also had an impact on his season and he has struggled to regain full form since.
Mainoo has been much discussed this summer, with the youngster requesting a loan move away from the club.
However, this requested was denied.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim speaks on Kobbie Mainoo future
Amorim spoke very vocally on Mainoo’s future.
He said: “Like a lot of guys, he wants to play more. I believe a lot in Kobbie but some of you think that Kobbie Mainoo is already done.
“I think he can do so much better. He can improve in a lot. I really believe in Kobbie but I want more.”
For now, it remains to see how long Mainoo will remain at the club, given his lack of playing time so far this season.
Will he be able to turn his United career around?
