Manchester United are facing a major decision as the season nears its end. The club must soon decide who will lead them forward.
However, the situation is far from simple. There is no clear direction yet from the board. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick has done an impressive job as interim manager.
He stepped in after Ruben Amorim’s departure in December. At the same time, Carrick has delivered strong results. He has recorded seven wins, two draws and just one defeat in ten matches.
As a result, United now sit third in the Premier League. They are just one point above Aston Villa. Despite that progress, the board remain cautious.
They do not want to rush into a permanent appointment. Instead, they are carefully reviewing their options. The INEOS-led hierarchy want to explore the market fully.
Meanwhile, this uncertainty has opened the door for other candidates. Several top managers are now being considered.
At the same time, one name continues to stand out. Reports suggest that talks have already taken place.
According to Football Transfers, Manchester United have held discussions with Xabi Alonso. The former Real Madrid boss has also spoken with other top clubs.
Interest in him is widespread, with Manchester City, Benfica and Porto all monitoring his situation.
Meanwhile, PSG are also keeping a close watch. They see him as a potential replacement if Luis Enrique leaves. Also, Liverpool want him to replace Arne Slot if they decide to sack him.
As a result, the race for his signature is becoming intense. United could face strong competition. At the same time, Alonso himself is ready to return. He is eager to step back into the dugout.
This development puts United at a crossroads. They must choose between Carrick’s current momentum and a proven elite option.
The former Liverpool midfielder has already held preliminary discussions with the club. And with multiple teams involved, United now face a crucial battle to secure their next manager.
