Manchester United respond to claims about resting Matheus Cunha for last three games

Cunha is also expected to be part of Brazil’s squad for the World Cup.

Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha remains central to Manchester United’s plans despite recent speculation surrounding his availability.

Reports from ESPN Brazil had suggested that Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti wanted the forward to be rested ahead of the World Cup.

The claims indicated that Ancelotti had asked United to leave Cunha out of their final three league matches.

The idea was to keep him fresh for the upcoming World Cup in North America. However, Manchester United have firmly rejected those reports.

According to Manchester Evening News, the club insists that no discussions have taken place with Ancelotti or the Brazilian federation regarding Cunha’s involvement.

United have made it clear that Cunha will continue to play an important role as the season reaches its conclusion.

Interim boss Michael Carrick wants to maintain momentum. Even though Champions League qualification has already been secured, there is still plenty at stake.

United are pushing to secure a third-place finish, which would bring in around £50 million in prize money.

Carrick also is eager to strengthen his case for the permanent managerial position. A strong finish to the season could play a key role in that decision.

But according to reports, Manchester United have dismissed the suggestion to rest Cunha, making it clear that the forward remains part of their plans for the final games.

Cunha has been one of the standout performers this season. Since his £62.5 million move from Wolves last summer, he has made a major impact.

The 26-year-old has scored nine goals in 27 league starts. Many of those contributions have come in big matches, including wins against Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool.

With 21 international caps since his debut in 2021, Cunha will be also a part of Brazil’s squad for the World Cup.
