Manchester United are having an inconsistent season. Well, over the last decade, United’s name kind of became synonymous with inconsistency.
Many times, their fans thought that their glory days were back, only to realise the harsh reality. This season, the same thing happened.
Though the results were not in favour of United, fans can clearly see an improvement in terms of performance from the last season under Ruben Amorim.
After the slow start, United won three games back-to-back for the first time under Amorim. And, Manchester United fans started believing that they are now finally back.
However, inconsistency hit United again, and now, they are entering perhaps their toughest phase of the season. Ruben Amorim needed his best players on the pitch.
But after the disappointing loss to Aston Villa, where his team did perform well, Amorim will have to lead his team out against Newcastle United at Old Trafford without seven players from his first-choice XI.
This will not only be concerning for United but a string of bad results could cost Amorim his job. The Red Devils will miss their captain, Bruno Fernandes, due to an injury he suffered against Villa.
United will be happy to welcome Casemiro back after his one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards.
Also, along with Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo had an injury before the Villa game, which could have started. So, he will miss the Newcastle game as well.
Meanwhile, United’s defence is a mess, as Harry Maguire and Matthijs De Ligt are unavailable due to injuries. And, Amorim has to rely on Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro.
Also, star players like Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo, and Bryan Mbeumo are all away from the club, as they are representing their countries in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ruben Amorim will be hoping to overcome this phase of the season unscathed.
