Mikel Arteta delivers Bukayo Saka injury update

Arsenal have received a timely boost ahead of a crucial Premier League fixture, as Mikel Arteta provided a positive update on Bukayo Saka.

The Gunners are entering a decisive phase of the season. With just five matches remaining, they are locked level on points and goal difference with Manchester City in the title race.

That situation has increased the importance of every available player. Bukayo Saka has been absent since the Carabao Cup final due to an ongoing Achilles issue.

His absence has been a significant blow, especially during a period when Arsenal have needed consistency in attack. However, that is now set to change.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta confirmed that Saka is expected to return to the matchday squad. He said:

“Bukayo is probably going to be in the squad, so good news.”

The winger trained with the first team and showed encouraging signs during the session. Arteta added:

“He was in great spirits today. You can see that the sun was shining and he’s back with the team because he had a different energy.”

The manager also explained the decision to give Saka time to recover properly. He said:

“We have given him some time because it was a moment where he was struggling to sustain the performances because he was not comfortable at all.

“We’ve done that. He’s had the right treatment, the right space. He had some time as well for himself and now he’s in the most important part of the season and he’s back with us.”

There was further positive news for Arsenal. Riccardo Calafiori is also expected to return to the squad after missing recent matches.

However, Jurrien Timber remains unavailable due to a groin injury. Arteta confirmed:

“[Calafiori] probably in the squad as well. Jurrien not in the squad.”

With the title race finely balanced, Bukayo Saka’s return could prove decisive for Arsenal in the final weeks.
