Arsenal are preparing to host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in the London Derby.
After dispatching Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby, the Gunners will be confident heading into this clash against the Blues.
So, Mikel Arteta sat down for the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Chelsea to give an update about his squad.
Arteta informed that the Gunners don’t have any fresh injury concerns ahead of the game against the Blues. He said:
“No so far, we’re waiting for tomorrow, the last training session, to understand if we have one or two available from last week.”
The Arsenal boss also informed that the Gunners may welcome back some of their injured players. These players did not feature for them in their win against the Spurs. He said:
“We are hopeful; Max (Dowman) will play some minutes tonight with the under-21s.
“Kai will train tomorrow and then we’ll see (if he’s fit to face Chelsea).”
Arteta also stressed the importance of recovery from injuries for the players. And Viktor Gyokeres is a prime example of that.
The Swede has scored eight goals in the last 12 games for the Gunners and scored a brace in the win against the Spurs. This is what Arteta had to say about Gyokeres:
“Well I think one thing leads to another.
“When you score the first one, the performance is good, you have more time with your teammates, you understand the games, the opponents, the league, everything helps.
“We know his qualities, he’s undoubtedly an incredible striker.
“We need to feed his quality, we need to understand him better, he needs to understand the team, the league better and I think we are in the right trajectory.”
Mikel Arteta will be hoping that Gyokeres can find the net against the Blues. And the Gunners would like to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League with a win in this game.
