Mikel Arteta has committed his long-term future to Arsenal after transforming the club into Premier League champions.
The Spaniard initially returned as head coach in December 2019. Arsenal were struggling for direction when their former captain took charge.
Arteta delivered the FA Cup during his first campaign. He then oversaw a significant rebuild backed by the club hierarchy.
That process eventually produced Arsenal’s biggest domestic achievement for more than two decades.
Last season, Arteta guided the Gunners to their first Premier League title in 22 years. Arsenal also finished runners-up in the Champions League.
The defending champions have continued competing near the top this season.
Arsenal have collected 12 points from their opening five Premier League matches. Their only defeat came in a 3-0 loss at Brighton.
Their Champions League campaign also began positively with a 1-0 victory over Napoli. Arsenal have now rewarded Arteta for that progress by securing his future.
The club officially announced that Arteta has signed a new long-term contract. His agreement runs until June 2030. Arteta’s coaching staff have also renewed their deals for the same period.
The announcement further strengthens the relationship between Arteta and Arsenal’s ownership.
Stan and Josh Kroenke believe last season’s title success can begin another important period for the club.
Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick also wants the club to create a sustained winning era under Arteta. The 44-year-old has now managed Arsenal across 361 matches in all competitions.
His 62.05% winning percentage is the highest achieved by any full-time manager in Arsenal’s history. Arteta also became Arsenal’s seventh title-winning manager last season.
That championship represented the club’s 14th English league title and fourth Premier League crown. The new agreement gives Arsenal stability as they pursue further major trophies.
Arteta will now have the opportunity to build on last season’s breakthrough and establish a longer period of success.
