There was a time when Neymar was tipped to be among the greatest players of all time. However, his fall from the top is quite astonishing.
He left for PSG in 2017 with a record transfer fee. Barcelona made €222 million by selling Neymar to the French side. To date, this has been the most expensive transfer in football history.
For PSG, Neymar played 173 games. The Brazilian scored 118 goals for the French club and registered 79 assists.
After winning 5 Ligue 1 titles, Neymar left for Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal paid €90 million to PSG for the Brazilian superstar.
However, injuries cut short his Saudi voyage, and he returned to his old club, Santos, on a free transfer. Since then, he has been playing with the Brazilian team.
Now, recently, a video footage emerged where Neymar was having an altercation with his Santos teammates.
In the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, Neymar’s team is in the relegation zone. This season, in 15 appearances for the club in the league, Neymar scored only 3 goals with zero assists.
Furthermore, in all competitions, the 33-year-old played only 23 games and added 8 goals to his tally, along with 3 assists.
Neymar is not happy with the tactics of his club. He wanted them to play out from the back, and his teammates wanted to play long balls.
So, he decided to take matters into his own hands and ran from the other end of the pitch to pass a goal kick to his fellow teammate, who ended up hitting the ball long again.
There is no doubt that the team is having problems internally. Whether they will survive or get relegated, only time will tell.
But one thing is for sure: Neymar is not having a good time back at his old club.
