Pep Guardiola finally reacted after VAR denied West Ham United a dramatic late equaliser against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Premier League title race almost swung again deep into stoppage time at the London Stadium when Callum Wilson volleyed home what appeared to be a crucial equaliser.

A goal for West Ham would have damaged Arsenal’s title hopes and handed momentum back to Manchester City.

Instead, VAR ruled the goal out after officials decided Pablo Felipe fouled David Raya while the Arsenal goalkeeper attempted to claim the cross.

The decision immediately sparked debate among supporters during a huge weekend in the title race. Now Guardiola has shared his reaction to the controversial moment.

Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Crystal Palace, the Manchester City manager insisted he immediately shifted focus back onto his own team. Pep Guardiola said:

“Crystal Palace – and thinking what we have to do. As I always learned from my career as a manager what you can’t control, forget about it.

“[Focus] and do better what we have not done better this season to fight for the Premier League.”

The Spaniard also admitted he did not even know how his players reacted because he gave the squad a day off after City’s 3-0 victory over Brentford.

Despite Arsenal’s win, Guardiola insisted City’s challenge remains unchanged heading into the final weeks of the season. He said:

“It’s the same one as one day, two day, one week ago, two weeks ago.”

City now know they must beat Crystal Palace to keep serious pressure on Arsenal in the title race.

Any dropped points could leave Guardiola’s side needing favours before they return to Premier League action next week against Bournemouth.

City’s recent record against Palace remains mixed despite their overall dominance in the fixture.

Guardiola’s side have not lost this league fixture since 2021, although they have also struggled at times to fully control matches against the Eagles in recent seasons.
