A Premier League star has been convicted of speeding near their rival’s training ground and fined following a court ruling.
This is not the first time a Premier League star has been convicted for over speeding. But this time, a former Manchester United player is at the centre of the incident.
Alejandro Garnacho has found himself in trouble off the pitch. The Chelsea winger has now been involved in a legal issue.
The incident took place before his move to Chelsea. It happened while he was still connected to Manchester United.
Garnacho was driving near United’s Carrington training ground. That is when he triggered a speed camera.
He was caught driving at 50mph in a 40mph zone. So, he had clearly exceeded the speed limit.
The incident happened just days before his transfer. He completed a £40 million move to Chelsea shortly after.
So, the timing made the situation more noticeable. The case was handled in court recently. Garnacho admitted the offence through his legal team.
His lawyers confirmed that he accepted responsibility. They also stated that he was embarrassed by the situation. They said (via ESPN):
“Mr Garnacho accepts that he committed the offence of exceeding the speed limit and has pleaded guilty.
“Mr Garnacho explains this was an oversight on his part and apologises for the offence.
“Our client is embarrassed that he is currently in this position and apologises to the Court.”
There was also a second charge involved. He was accused of failing to respond to police communication.
However, that charge was later withdrawn. This came after he pleaded guilty to speeding. The court then issued the final punishment, and Garnacho was fined £660.
Also, he must pay £120 in costs and a £264 surcharge. On top of that, he received three penalty points on his licence. So, the matter has now been resolved legally
