Last weekend may have been the turning point for Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United career.
It has been a tough time for the former Portugal international since taking over from Erik ten Hag on November 1st last year.
Amorim has overseen the worst Premier League finish in the club’s history, finishing 15th and losing in the UEFA Europa League final.
United currently reside in ninth place in the Premier League table at time of writing, a poor season so far by the club’s usual standards but a significant improvement on their 14th place position this time last year.
After a 2-0 home win against Sunderland, Amorim guided United to their first win at Anfield since the 2015/16 season.
A late Harry Maguire header earned United a 2-1 win against Liverpool on Sunday, as their bitter rivals’ slump in form continues.
Following the game, Liverpool manager Arne Slot made reference to United’s “low block” and “long balls”.
Amorim had his say on the Dutchman’s comments.
Ruben Amorim enters into war of words with Arne Slot
Speaking in his press conference yesterday ahead of today’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford, Amorim hit back at Slot’s comments.
He said: “I don’t care what Slot is saying. I can watch the game and say we can do better, and we need to do better in the future, but sometimes you need to adapt to the game.
“So I don’t need anyone to evaluate my team. I can evaluate my team.”
Amorim will hope that the result can be the catalyst for the club to bring back the good times to their fanbase.
