Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim after his controversial press conference following the draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.
After the 2-2 draw, he gave a controversial statement, which caused his downfall at the club. Amorim said:
“I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United. That is clear.
“I know that my name is not [Thomas] Tuchel, it’s not [Antonio] Conte, it’s not [Jose] Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United.
“And it’s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change. I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”
Amorim left the club with the worst win percentage (38.1%) by any permanent United manager during the Premier League era.
After his departure, the Portuguese is yet to open up on his Manchester United days. He has not come out and spoken about his experience.
However, his assistant manager, Adelio Candido, gave an interview to A Bola where he shared his thoughts on his Manchester United experience. Candido said:
“Experience is always experience, whether the outcome is good or bad, we always come away with learning.
“In Manchester, I really liked the city and the way the fans experience football, more focused on the project than on the immediate result.
“What I liked least was, without a doubt, feeling that our ideas weren’t fully implemented.”
Ruben Amorim is already linked with a managerial job at a surprise club, and he is yet to make up his mind about returning to management.
However, since Amorim left and Michael Carrick took charge at the club, the Red Devils are experiencing an upturn in their fortunes.
Manchester United are unbeaten under Carrick and are currently sitting in third position in the Premier League table.
