Scott McTominay has been a revelation at Napoli. Since his move to Italy, he has been fulfilling his true potential.
The Scottish international is another example of a player living up to their potential after leaving Manchester United.
At Old Trafford, he got criticised and battered by fans and pundits. However, at Napoli, he has become a superstar.
Last season, he helped Napoli win the Scudetto. He also won the Serie A Most Valuable Player award.
Manchester United received £25 million for McTominay, and Erik ten Hag was the manager who sanctioned his departure.
Recently, McTominay appeared on talkSPORT (via YouTube), where he was asked about his experience in Napoli. The 28-year-old spoke his heart out. He said:
“It’s amazing. The people there are incredibly passionate, and they drive us through every single game, and they’re probably some of the best fans that I’ve ever played in front of because every game that we turn up the they’re firing to push the team and to help and stuff like that is incredible.
Like, honestly, for me, like going there, the love and support that they give to the whole team, not just individuals, is special.”
Scott McTominay played 255 games for Manchester United and scored 29 goals. He also had 8 assists for United.
Jose Mourinho was the manager who gave him a break in the first team. He became a regular starter during the era of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Manchester United academy graduate surprisingly didn’t put the Red Devils’ fans as the best, probably because of the criticisms he had to face from them.
But at Napoli, he has changed the trajectory of his career. In 49 games, already scored 17 goals and provided 7 assists.
Manchester United fans might feel bad about his comments, but that’s what McTominay feels right now. He feels special at Napoli, something he didn’t get from United fans.
