Unai Emery makes decision on his Aston Villa future

Unai Emery’s side is firmly in the race to secure Champions League football next season.

Unai Emery

Unai Emery joined Aston Villa in November 2022, replacing Steven Gerrard. The Villans were struggling under the former Liverpool star.

The club was in a relegation battle when Unai Emery came in, and the Spaniard turned things around smartly. Under Gerrard, they won only four out of 22 games.

Also, Aston Villa didn’t play in Europe for over a decade when Emery joined. And he has now made them a top 4 contender.

In his first season, Emery remarkably turned things around at Villa Park. When he started, the team was in 17th position in the Premier League table.

From there, they finished 7th and qualified for the Conference League. In the following season, Villa secured 4th place, which secured Champions League qualification for the first time since 1982.

Last season, Aston Villa failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing to Manchester United at Old Trafford on the final day.

Now, this season, Unai Emery’s side is firmly in the race to secure Champions League football next season. They are sitting in fourth place, tied on points with Manchester United.

They also have a three-point lead over Liverpool and Chelsea. Unai Emery’s current contract with Aston Villa is valid until 2029.

But according to Football Insider, Unai Emery could leave Aston Villa as he is unhappy with the spending of the club.

Due to financial restrictions, the club cannot sign many of Emery’s targets. That is why he could decide to leave the club next summer.

Transfer News Live has already reported that Real Madrid are showing interest in Emery after watching his impact at Aston Villa.

So, if an offer comes from the Los Blancos, there will be a possibility of seeing the Spaniard martialling orders in the dugout of Santiago Bernabeu.
