Arsenal have started their 2025/26 Premier League campaign in the best possible way. After 7 games, they are at the top of the table.
The only game they lost was against the defending champions, Liverpool, at Anfield due to a spectacular free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai.
Also, they have beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford and got a crucial draw against Manchester City at the Emirates due to an added-time goal from Gabriel Martinelli.
The Gunners spent heavily this summer to sign attackers like Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and, of course, Viktor Gyokeres.
The Swedish international joined Arsenal from Sporting CP. Many thought that he could be the X-factor Mikel Arteta needed up front to win the Premier League.
In the last few seasons, Arsenal consecutively came second in the table. One of the main reasons for that was the lack of a prolific scorer.
Arteta tried Kai Havertz, but he was squandering sitters. Gabriel Jesus struggled with his fitness and is currently out of action.
Vikto Gyokeres won the Gerd Muller Trophy this year because of his prolific goal-scoring run at Sporting. In 52 games for the Portuguese side, he scored 54 goals.
Also, for Arsenal, Gyokeres has scored 3 goals in 7 games. So, it is for sure that the 27-year-old will be the first-choice striker for the Gunners now.
That is why one Arsenal striker could leave next summer with his contract expiring in 2027. Gabriel Jesus came through the ranks at Palmeiras in Brazil.
Their president, Leila Pereira, has openly stated his desire to bring Gabriel Jesus back to Palmeiras. He told journalist Paloma Tocci (via The Sporting News):
“Of course Gabriel Jesus. And I’ll say more. Soon you’re coming back home, Gabriel! One day you’ll return,”
Along with Jesus, the contract of Kai Havertz will expire in 2028. So, the Gunners will have a decision to make as one of the two strikers will surely depart next summer.
