Arsenal agree deal to sign €40M Leandro Trossard replacement

Tossard’s exit created an obvious gap on the left side of Arsenal’s attack.

Arsenal head into the new season with momentum after ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta guided the Gunners to domestic glory and also reached the Champions League final. The club have wasted little time strengthening the squad during the summer window.

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has already arrived, while Andrea Berta continues to pursue more attacking reinforcements. At the same time, Arsenal have balanced the books with several departures.

Jakub Kiwior has completed a move to Porto and Leandro Trossard has joined Besiktas. Tossard’s exit created an obvious gap on the left side of Arsenal’s attack.

Attention quickly turned towards Belgium, where one of Europe’s most productive wingers enjoyed another outstanding season.

According to Greek journalist Dimitris Manakos, Arsenal reached an agreement to sign Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis earlier this week.

BBC Sport has since confirmed that the two clubs have now reached a verbal agreement worth €40 million (£33.9m).

A formal offer is expected to follow shortly and personal terms are not expected to cause any problems.

The Greece international would then undergo a medical before completing the move to North London.

Tzolis arrives after a remarkable campaign for both club and country. The 24-year-old scored 22 goals and registered 29 assists in 52 appearances last season.

Those performances helped Club Brugge win the Belgian Pro League title. They also earned him the Belgian Footballer of the Year award.

Arsenal’s recruitment team followed his progress closely throughout the campaign. Maurizio Micheli watched the winger play for Greece against Sweden last month before Berta accelerated talks.

The move for Tzolis does not affect Arsenal’s wider transfer plans. The club remain interested in Julian Alvarez and continue to monitor Bruno Guimaraes as Arteta reshapes his title-winning squad.
