Arsenal continue to monitor the transfer market as they look to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad before the new season.
The Gunners have identified Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior as their dream signing on the left flank.
The Brazilian has received backing from every level of the club, with Arsenal prepared to offer a club-record salary worth more than £400,000 per week to try to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
However, any deal depends on Vinicius’ future at Real Madrid. The 26-year-old has entered the final year of his contract. And talks over an extension have continued for around 18 months.
But there is no agreement between the club and the player. While Real Madrid remain in discussions with the player, no new contract has been signed.
Now, according to football.london, Arsenal have received a major boost because Vinicius Junior’s future remains undecided.
The report states it is too early to conclude that the Brazilian will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite recent suggestions that he is expected to renew.
Instead, negotiations between Real Madrid and Vinicius are still ongoing, meaning Arsenal’s hopes of completing a deal remain alive.
Arsenal are fully aware of the opportunity should contract talks fail to produce an agreement. The report also claims there is complete alignment across the club.
Arteta, sporting director Andrea Berta and the ownership all support a move despite the significant financial commitment required.
Even so, Arsenal recognise the situation is currently out of their hands. The report says the Gunners will continue to wait while Vinicius works to resolve his future with Real Madrid.
Until there is a major change in the negotiations, Arsenal have no option but to remain patient.
For now, Arsenal’s pursuit remains dependent on the outcome of Vinicius’ contract talks, with the club still believing a move is possible.
