Arsenal have been searching for a marquee addition to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s attack during the summer transfer window.
The North London club identified Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior as their dream signing and were prepared to test the Spanish club’s resolve.
Arsenal were even willing to break their wage structure with a contract worth more than £400,000 per week to try to convince the Brazilian to move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Vinicius’ future has remained tied to his ongoing contract negotiations with Real Madrid.
The Brazil international has entered the final 12 months of his current deal, while talks over a new contract have continued for more than a year.
Despite the delay, the expectation has remained that the winger wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Now, according to MARCA, Arsenal have accepted that a move for Vinicius Junior is no longer realistic. They believe he will sign a new contract with Real Madrid.
The report claims that the Gunners are convinced the Brazilian will extend his stay in Spain. So, it will end any plans to submit a major offer this summer.
Although Arsenal had explored the possibility of capitalising on the contract uncertainty, the club now believes there is no opportunity to convince the winger to leave.
The report also states Vinicius Junior has never publicly indicated that he wants to leave Real Madrid. He has not made any statement or social media post suggesting he is pushing for a transfer.
As a result, Arsenal will now focus on alternative options in the market. MARCA adds that the Gunners remain interested in signing a top-class winger.
Bradley Barcola is among the names under consideration, while they still have to resolve Gabriel Martinelli’s future. For now, Arsenal’s pursuit of Vinicius Junior appears to be over.
